Tomato Basil Pasta Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 200g pasta (spaghetti, penne, or your favorite type)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes (or 5-6 fresh tomatoes, chopped)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional, to balance the acidity of tomatoes)
  • Fresh basil leaves, chopped (about 10-15 leaves)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese, for garnish
  • Optional: red chili flakes for extra spice

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Pasta

    • Fill a large pot with water, add a pinch of salt, and bring it to a boil.
    • Add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions until it’s al dente (firm to the bite).
    • Once cooked, drain the pasta but reserve about 1 cup of pasta water to use later if needed.
  2. Prepare the Sauce Base

    • Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
    • Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes, until it becomes fragrant and golden (avoid burning it).
  3. Cook the Tomatoes

    • Add the crushed tomatoes (or fresh chopped tomatoes) to the pan with the garlic.
    • Stir well, then season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of sugar if the tomatoes are too acidic.
    • Allow the sauce to simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens slightly.
  4. Add the Pasta to the Sauce

    • Add the cooked pasta to the pan with the sauce, tossing everything together to coat the pasta evenly.
    • If the sauce is too thick, gradually add the reserved pasta water, a little at a time, until it reaches your desired consistency.
  5. Add Basil and Final Touches

    • Turn off the heat, add the fresh chopped basil leaves, and toss again.
    • Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  6. Serve

    • Divide the pasta into bowls, garnish with grated Parmesan cheese, and sprinkle some red chili flakes if you like a bit of heat.
    • Serve hot and enjoy!
