Tomato Basil Pasta Recipe
Ingredients:
- 200g pasta (spaghetti, penne, or your favorite type)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes (or 5-6 fresh tomatoes, chopped)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tsp sugar (optional, to balance the acidity of tomatoes)
- Fresh basil leaves, chopped (about 10-15 leaves)
- Grated Parmesan cheese, for garnish
- Optional: red chili flakes for extra spice
Instructions:
Cook the Pasta
- Fill a large pot with water, add a pinch of salt, and bring it to a boil.
- Add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions until it’s al dente (firm to the bite).
- Once cooked, drain the pasta but reserve about 1 cup of pasta water to use later if needed.
Prepare the Sauce Base
- Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes, until it becomes fragrant and golden (avoid burning it).
Cook the Tomatoes
- Add the crushed tomatoes (or fresh chopped tomatoes) to the pan with the garlic.
- Stir well, then season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of sugar if the tomatoes are too acidic.
- Allow the sauce to simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens slightly.
Add the Pasta to the Sauce
- Add the cooked pasta to the pan with the sauce, tossing everything together to coat the pasta evenly.
- If the sauce is too thick, gradually add the reserved pasta water, a little at a time, until it reaches your desired consistency.
Add Basil and Final Touches
- Turn off the heat, add the fresh chopped basil leaves, and toss again.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
Serve
- Divide the pasta into bowls, garnish with grated Parmesan cheese, and sprinkle some red chili flakes if you like a bit of heat.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
This simple tomato basil pasta is easy to customize, so feel free to add vegetables, mushrooms, or grilled chicken for extra flavor. Enjoy your cooking!
